Walk With Little Amal

September 12, 2023
Burr Mall, Hartford, CT

Mark your calendars to join us Tuesday, September 12 at 1:00pm at Trinity and Elm Street in Hartford. Along the walk, Amal will experience dance, music, and live performance to guide her journey, ending with a celebration at the Burr Mall.

Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl who has traveled across 13 countries meeting more than a million people, and watched by tens of millions more online.  This fall, she will journey 6,000 miles across the United States in one of the largest free public festivals ever created.

35 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 1,000+ artists and arts organizations will create 100+ events to welcome her.  Amal’s journeys of art and hope celebrate the rich stories of refugees, immigrants and displaced people, and the communities that welcome them.

Amal tries to find her way through Hartford when a family of cheeky squirrels test her determination. The streets pulse with music and Amal discovers that chasing squirrels can also be a kind of dance…

In partnership with Alber Baseel (Percussionist, National Arab Orchestra), Ameen Mokdad, Anne Cubberly, City of Hartford, Cuatro Puntos, Greater Hartford Arts Council (GHAC), Studio860, The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, The Bushnell’s Ensign Darling Vocal Fellows-New Voices, led by Artistic Director Ariana Valdes and with musical arrangements by James Rushin, Connecticut Immigration and Refugee Coalition (CIRC), Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet, First Presbyterian Church of Hartford, Integrated Refugee & Immigrant, Services (IRIS), Paula J. Santos, Bushnell Teaching Artist, and Wadsworth Atheneum.

Everyone is welcome to walk with Amal. Join us! This event is FREE and open to the public.
